Thursday Newsfeed: Gales are coming for NZ

Stormy weather is coming. Thursday isn’t too unsettled ahead of the rough weather for Friday and Saturday.

Today is a transition day as low pressure east of NZ moves away, and a giant storm in the Southern Ocean tracks by us to the south. The placement of the Southern Ocean low with the nearest high (near Adelaide) means New Zealand will see a sou’west flow develop in some places today, ahead of gales on Friday and Saturday from the west to south west.

The next few days ahead will feel more like we’re in Autumn as westerly winds roar through and temperatures drop. However it’s short lived – with settled weather by Sunday and Monday returning to NZ.
