Friday Newsfeed: The calm before Saturday’s wind &/or heat

New Zealand is a slice of heaven today – it’s anything but four seasons in one day. High pressure is smothering most regions so after another cool start for some places, the afternoon should be warm to host for most, with winds mostly light.

However, an incoming front to NZ’s south west and a low pressure zone to our north east means cloudy weather will come into some places – our new App has cloud cover graphs to help you better see when the weather is most likely overcast / cloudy or clear skies.

The southern half of West Coast is most exposed to severe weather today – view the latest warnings and watches from MetService here.

While winds are light in many places today, a warmer and windier nor’west flow will kick into the lower South Island – this will head northwards on Saturday pushing eastern and inland parts of NZ back into the late 20s and low 30s after the temperature drop of earlier this week.
