A front slowly moves northwards over the North Island today, mainly sticking to the lower half of the Island then weakening a fair amount later in the day. The South Island sees a weak ridge of high pressure.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy, chance of a shower afternoon onwards about the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 20-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy, rain develops in the morning then easing to showers around midday. Breezy northwesterly winds ease from afternoon, perhaps tending a little more westerly after midday.
Highs: 18

Eastern North Island

Mainly sunny at first, northwesterlies change southwest in the morning about the Wairarapa bringing a few showers. Showers move further north in the afternoon then clearing later in the evening.
Highs: 23-26

Wellington

Morning showers clear, mostly cloudy with south to southeasterly winds.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly cloudy about Marlborough, chance of a light drizzle patch or two during the day otherwise mainly dry. Any morning showers clear about Nelson then mostly sunny. East to southeasterly winds about Marlborough, afternoon northerlies for Nelson.

Canterbury

Cloudy, chance of a drizzle patch or two about otherwise mainly dry. Southerly winds.
High: 13

West Coast

Mostly sunny with west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

Southland & Otago

Mostly cloudy about Southland and coastal Otago with the chance of a shower or two, breezy southwesterly winds. Central Otago has mainly sunny weather.
