A front in the Tasman Sea moves eastwards towards New Zealand today, moving on the western side of the country this afternoon / evening. Expect areas of rain with heavy falls for the upper North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy, with a chance of fog to start for inland areas. Rain moves into Northland after midday then moves elsewhere late afternoon / evening. Rain may become heavy. Northerly winds.
Highs: 13-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with rain developing about Taranaki in the afternoon then spreading elsewhere in the evening. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-14

Eastern North Island

High cloud thickens from morning, some rain develops in the evening. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-13

Wellington

Cloudy with spots of rain later in the evening, northeasterly winds.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy with northeasterly winds, rain develops about Nelson around midday. The odd spot of rain or drizzle patch develops around midday also for Marlborough.
Highs: 11-12

Canterbury

The odd drizzle patch, perhaps some evening rain, then clearing overnight. Breezy east to northeasterly winds, brisk about the coast.
Highs: 10

West Coast

Cloudy with rain from afternoon, breezy northeasterly winds.
Highs: 11-13

Southland & Otago

Cloudy, with the chance of a drizzle patch or two, especially near Coastal Otago. A few spots of rain spread into Central Otago in the afternoon then elsewhere in the evening. Breezy east to northeasterly winds, brisk to strong about the Catlins and Coastal Otago.
Highs: 10-12
