A northerly quarter airflow lies over the country today, breezy to brisk for many North Island regions. A front moves over the North Island today also bringing heavy falls for some.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Areas of rain heavy at times with possible thunderstorms over Northland in the morning then moving elsewhere in the afternoon (thunderstorms mainly possible about Northland and Auckland). Rain easing during the afternoon for Northland and later in the evening elsewhere, breezy northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Patchy showers from morning turning to rain after midday, chance of a heavy fall or two in the evening. Breezy northeasterly winds.
Highs: 11-14

Eastern North Island

Cloudy skies with breezy northeasterly winds, areas of rain moving over from the west late afternoon and evening.
Highs: 13-14

Wellington

Spots of rain possible in the morning, widespread rain more likely from afternoon. Northeasterly winds.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy with rain for much of the day, heaviest about the northwest Nelson area. Rain then clearing overnight. Breezy northeasterly winds.
Highs: 13-14

Canterbury

Thick high cloud, any early spots of rain clear. A few spots of rain may make their way into North Canterbury again late afternoon or evening. Northeasterly winds gradually ease.
High: 13

West Coast

Areas of rain, heaviest about Buller during the day. Northerly winds gradually ease.
Highs: 13-14

Southland & Otago

High cloud with some sun at times, some early rain possible about coastal Otago. Northerly quarter winds.
Highs: 11-13
