Wednesday Newsfeed: Hotter weather for many but Thursday is colder lower SI.

As high pressure moves over NZ a cold front from the Southern Ocean will nip at the heels of the South Island – enough to drop maximum daytime temperatures by more than 10 degrees from where they will be today.

Wednesday is a settled day for most places, but with the high moving further eastwards this drags in a windier and hotter nor’west airflow in. Eastern areas from Canterbury to Hawkes Bay and inland areas to the north like Waikato will be in the upper 20s or even lower 30s. For some in the north, it gets even hotter by Friday.

But Thursday will see a shot of colder air in Southland and coastal Otago in particular, with daytime highs dropping over 10 degrees. Some places will only just make it to the teens at the hottest part of the day. Warmer weather returns by Friday with highs around 19 or 20 in these same places.

Most places are dry today. In fact many regions like Northland, Waikato, Marlborough and Canterbury have very little rain coming over the next 15 days. Most wet weather will be in the lower half of West Coast.
