Tuesday’s national forecast

Upper North Island

Mostly cloudy with a light shower or drizzle patch passing through at times, the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty may dry out a tad this afternoon with some sun possibly breaking through. Winds breezy and humid from the northeast. Temperatures in the mid twenties this afternoon, possibly staying in the low twenties about the Coromandel and Bay Of Plenty.

Lower North Island

Any morning cloud breaking to mostly sunny weather, some cloud builds about inland ranges in the afternoon bringing the risk of an isolated shower. Winds mostly from the north or northeast, becoming gusty about eastern coastal areas in the afternoon. High’s in the mid to late twenties.

Upper South Island

Cloud about North Westland and Nelson / Marlborough Sounds may bring a light shower or drizzle patch at times, drying out in the afternoon about Nelson and the Marlborough Sounds with sun breaking through. Winds from the north or northeast. A mostly sunny day along the east coast after any early lower level cloud breaks away, east to northeast winds freshen up in the afternoon near the coast. High’s in the low to mid twenties along the West Coast and for Nelson. Mid to high twenties elsewhere.

Lower South Island

Fairly cloudy in the west with the chance of a drizzle patch or two at times. Further east conditions are mainly sunny, perhaps some high cloud. Late afternoon / evening a few isolated showers may develop about Southland and some parts of inland Otago bringing the risk of a heavy fall. Any showers clear later on. Winds from the north or northeast, tending southerly in the afternoon for Southland. High’s in the low twenties out west, mid to high twenties elsewhere. Inland parts of Southland and Otago run into the thirties once again.
