Tuesday’s national forecast

A southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, a weakening front passes over the North Island while another moves onto the lower / western South Island overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Areas of cloud, a few showers move in this morning then drying out this afternoon with some sun breaking through. The odd shower may linger through till evening. The Bay Of Plenty is mainly dry, just the chance of a shower around midday. West to southwesterly winds freshen.
Highs: 18-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers, mostly clearing this afternoon then sunny spells develop. Chance a shower may linger through to evening. Breezy westerly winds.
Highs: 14-17

Eastern North Island
Some high cloud, a southwest change moves into the Wairarapa this morning bringing a few showers, clearing this afternoon. Southwesterlies moving into Hawkes Bay and Gisborne this afternoon bringing the risk of a shower otherwise staying fairly dry.
Highs: 18-21

Wellington
Any early showers clear then sunny areas increase, southerlies tend northerly this afternoon.
High: 16

Marlborough & Nelson
A mostly sunny day, afternoon east to northeasterly winds for Marlborough. West to northwesterly winds for Nelson.
Highs: 17-19

Canterbury
Early morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, east to northeasterly winds freshen. Low risk of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening Banks Peninsula southwards.
Highs: 15-17

West Coast
Cloudy areas with a shower or two, especially Hokitika northwards. Rain moves into Fiordland later this evening. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy about Southland with a shower or two, more so afternoon onwards. Freshening westerlies. Otago has a mix of sun and cloud, chance of a shower late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 13-19
