Tuesday’s national forecast

A front moves over the upper South Island on Tuesday, onto the lower North Island during the afternoon / evening. The airflow is generally from the northwest ahead of the front and from the south in behind.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Morning cloud (a chance of drizzle this morning also) breaks to afternoon sunny spells, Westerly winds. Northland has a sunny day with hot afternoon temperatures and sea breezes.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy, the odd drizzle patch then rain develops this afternoon before easing overnight. Westerlies tend southeast late afternoon or evening. Rain may not move into the Central North Island till later this evening or overnight.
Highs: 21-26

Eastern North Island

Hot and sunny with northwesterlies, some rain moves into the Wairarapa during the afternoon then into Hawkes Bay this evening with a southerly change.
Highs: 30-35

Wellington

Winds change southeasterly this morning with rain which then eases this afternoon.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Rain develops this morning as winds change southeast, possibly heavy for a time then easing this afternoon. Winds mainly light about Nelson.
Highs: 19-22

Canterbury

Showers ease to the odd drizzle patch this morning. Southeasterly winds tend easterly after midday.
Highs: 15-16

West Coast

Rain about North Westland clears around midday then expect high cloud with a few sunny breaks possible. South Westland sees morning high cloud clear then mainly sunny. Winds from the south or southwest.
Highs: 18-21

Southland & Otago

Sunny spells, showers from midday then clearing in the evening. Brisk southwesterly winds, lighter inland.
Highs: 15-19
