A ridge hangs over New Zealand today, becoming unstable this afternoon / evening about some inland parts of both islands.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Any morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, may be an evening isolated shower about eastern Waikato and inland Bay Of Plenty. Light southwesterly winds for most, tending northerly in the afternoon about the Bay Of Plenty.
Highs: 27-29

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Any morning cloud breaks away then mostly sunny, west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 24-28

Eastern North Island
Sunny and hot, may be an isolated shower about the ranges late afternoon / evening. Afternoon easterly winds.
Highs: 28-32

Wellington
Mostly sunny, some high cloud from afternoon. Northerly winds.
High: 26

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with some developing high cloud, light north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 28-31

Canterbury
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, showers develop this afternoon about South and Mid Canterbury with a southerly change, some may become heavy with thunderstorms then easing at night. Showers may reach North Canterbury for a time this evening.
Highs: 30-33

West Coast
Rain for Fiordland, clearing in the evening. Elsewhere expect morning mid level cloud to break to sunny areas and some high cloud. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 22-31

Southland & Otago
Morning sun then cloud and the chance of a shower moving in during the afternoon as light winds change southwest. Showers more likely about Otago where they may be heavy.
Highs: 21-31
