A front pushes northwards over the South Island during today, weakening as it does. The North Island has a ridge of high pressure.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of clouds and sunshine. Warmest afternoon temperatures about the Bay Of Plenty. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 24-28

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, overnight showers as northwesterlies change southeast.
Highs: 21-23

Eastern North Island
Any early showers clear, mid level cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather and a touch of high cloud. Southwesterlies ease then tending light northeast in the afternoon. An overnight southerly change brings the risk of a few showers about the Wairarapa.
Highs: 22-23

Wellington
Mostly cloudy, breezy northerly winds change southerly overnight bringing a few showers.
High: 21

Marlborough & Nelson
High cloud increases from morning, north to northwesterly winds change southerly in the evening bringing cooler temperatures and the risk of a shower.
Highs: 25-30

Canterbury
High cloud with northeasterly winds, a southerly change late afternoon or evening brings a few showers.
Highs: 24-26

West Coast
Rain pushes northwards during the day reaching North Westland in the afternoon, rain will weaken as it moves northwards gradually becoming patchy. Skies clearing up in the evening as northerlies change southerly.
Highs: 18-25

Southland & Otago
Some rain develops this morning, clearing early afternoon for Southland then this evening about Otago, sunny spells after showers clear. Northerlies change southwest then dying out later in the evening.
Highs: 18-24
