Thursday’s national forecast

A northerly airflow develops over the South Island today. Mainly sunny and settled with rain about Fiordland overnight. The North Island is sunny in the southwest, while showers ease in the northeast.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

The odd shower about Northland and Auckland, clearing by evening. Auckland may see showers, mostly in the north. The Waikato sees morning cloud break to sunny areas, a few morning showers about western BOP clear then cloud breaks in the afternoon. Breezy easterly winds.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly sunny with east to northeasterly breezes.
Highs: 12-16

Eastern North Island

Mainly sunny about Wairarapa, while Hawkes Bay sees the odd morning shower clear, then sunny spells increase from midday. Gisborne is mainly cloudy with the odd shower hanging around till evening. Winds from the northeast.

Wellington

Sunny with light northerlies.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with light winds, tending northerly in the afternoon.
Highs: 13-14

Canterbury

Sunny with light winds, tending east to northeast near the coast.
Highs: 11-13

West Coast

Mainly sunny weather with light winds for most. Cloud builds about South Westland from morning, however, and the odd light shower moves in during the afternoon then turns to rain overnight.
Highs: 10-11

Southland & Otago

Mostly sunny with some high cloud increasing from afternoon, with a few spots of rain in the evening about Southland. North to Nor’Easterly winds.
Highs: 8-11
