Sunday’s national forecast

Upper North Island

Any early showers clear then high cloud gradually decreases during the day, gusty southerly winds ease from afternoon. From evening winds tend more southwest about Northland and perhaps Auckland bringing some increasing cloud and the odd shower to western coastlines.

Lower North Island

The odd showers from Wellington along the east coast up to about Napier, heavy rain further north eases during today. Winds gusty from the south but gradually easing. Winds strong to gale about Gisborne this morning from the south. In the west conditions are mainly dry with high cloud decreasing during the day, gusty southerlies easing during the day in the west also. Snow about the Wellington / Wairarapa area to 300m, 400m about Hawkes Bay and 600m in the ranges behind Gisborne.

Upper South Island

A mainly sunny day after a frosty start, some coastal cloud possible about Canterbury and Marlborough however. Winds generally light although breezy southerlies about the Marlborough Sounds easing during the day.

Lower South Island

A mainly sunny day after a frosty start, light winds. Some evening cloud / showers about southern Fiordland and western Southland.
