Saturday’s national forecast – Settled but a few afternoon showers (+7 maps)

A ridge of high pressure lies over the country today, unstable conditions may develop about the inner South Island this afternoon.

A shower or two for the North Island today, mainly in the northeast this morning then inland parts of Northland down through to Taranaki this afternoon. Most of the South Island is dry apart from this afternoon where showers may develop about the Main Divide.

Temperatures in the early to mid twenties for most, perhaps getting into the late twenties for some inland spots.

Winds are mostly light today, northeasterlies may pick up a little for some eastern coastal areas this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny spells, a morning drizzle patch or shower possible about eastern coastal areas. Chance of an isolated shower in the afternoon, clearing later on. Light winds tend east to northeast by midday.
Highs: 24-27

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning cloud then sunny areas and some high cloud. About inland Taranaki cloud builds in the afternoon with a few isolated showers developing then clearing later on. Light winds tend to the west in the afternoon.
Highs: 22-26

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, some high cloud especially for Wairarapa. Morning cloud about Gisborne may bring a shower then breaking to afternoon sun. East to northeasterly winds.

Wellington

High cloud, sun breaks through at times. North to northeasterly winds.
High: 22-26

Marlborough & Nelson

High cloud, some sun may break through at times. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 22-27

Canterbury

Morning cloud breaks to sunny areas and high cloud, cloud thickens again in the evening. Inland about the high country cloud builds from afternoon bringing the chance of isolated showers, clearing at night. Afternoon east to northeast winds.

West Coast

Mostly cloudy about South Westland with showers, sunnier skies further north with some high cloud. Cloud builds in the afternoon inland about the Main Divide with isolated showers developing, some may become heavy with a risk of thunder then clearing at night. North to northeast winds.

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy, afternoon sun breaks through for some. Isolated showers late afternoon / evening about inland areas then clearing at night. Light winds, northeasterlies for coastal Otago.
Highs: 21-28
