Saturday’s national forecast

A very slow moving front lies across the upper North Island today, slowly moving off to the northeast overnight, meanwhile a quick moving front pushes northwards over the South Island from afternoon. Winds generally from the northwest, gusty / strong about the inner South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Muggy with areas of rain, easing in the evening. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas with a shower or two, may be some sun break through at times. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-20

Eastern North Island
Plenty of high cloud, some sun breaks through at times. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 25-27

Wellington
A few morning showers clear then mostly cloudy with brisk to strong northwesterly winds.
High: 18

Marlborough & Nelson
High cloud, gradually breaking away from afternoon. Gusty / strong north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 20-23

Canterbury
Sunny areas and some high cloud, northwesterly winds becoming gusty / strong about inland areas in the afternoon then easing at night.
Highs: 22-24

West Coast
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, rain with a chance of heavy falls spreading northwards along the coast in the afternoon. Rain eases in the evening back to showers. Freshening northwesterly winds change westerly in the evening.
Highs: 16-17

Southland & Otago
Sunny areas and some high cloud, showers develop during the afternoon (more so about Southland, drier for Otago) as light winds pick up from the west. Becoming dry again overnight.
Highs: 16-18
