Saturday’s national forecast

A north to northeasterly airflow lies over the North Island today while easterlies stream over the South Island, feeding into a big low in the Tasman Sea.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, late afternoon or evening spots of rain move in, becoming more persistent overnight. The Bay Of Plenty is looking to become fairly cloudy in the morning, chance of a shower from afternoon then overnight rain moves in. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy, a few spits possible then rain develops during the afternoon. Northeasterly winds, fresh about coastal Taranaki.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island
Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, some rain about the Wairarapa, a few spots spread northwards in the afternoon. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-20

Wellington
Areas of rain or drizzle, northerlies tend northeasterly by evening.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
Rain, becoming a little more persistent midday onwards. Heavy falls from evening especially about Nelson. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

Canterbury
Cloudy with patchy rain or drizzle, easterly winds.
Highs: 8-12

West Coast
Rain, possibly heavy at times then easing later in the evening as fresh northeasterly winds start to turn around to the east then southeast overnight.
Highs: 13-14

Southland & Otago
Sunny areas and plenty of high cloud about Southland, Otago is looking a little cloudier with only a chance of sun now and then. Easterly winds, fresh about the Otago coast.
Highs: 13-16
