A gusty west to northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today as a series of fronts move over the country pushing in from the southwest.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy areas and occasional sun, chance of a shower mainly in the afternoon. Breezy west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy areas and the odd shower, brisk west to northwesterly winds.
High: 18

Eastern North Island

Plenty of high cloud, some sun at times. There may be a spot of rain late afternoon / evening otherwise mainly dry. Breezy northwesterly winds.
Highs: 25-27

Wellington

Sunny spells, chance of a shower otherwise mainly dry. Strong northwesterly winds gusting to gale at times.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Areas of high cloud and some sun, some brief rain may spread from the west at times also. Nelson sees occasional showers and the odd sunny spell. Strong northwesterlies gusting to gale at times about Marlborough.
Highs: 18-20

Canterbury

Some high cloud, a few spots of rain may spread from the west mainly early morning, afternoon then again overnight. During these times rain may be more persistent about the high country and in the foothills. Gusty northwesterly winds.
High: 21

West Coast

Rain, heavy at times with possible thunderstorms. Gusty northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14

Southland & Otago

Occasional showers for Southland, thick high cloud with the odd spot of rain elsewhere. Gusty west to northwesterly winds, gusting up to gale about coastal Southland. Some rain moves in overnight.
Highs: 13-18
