Monday’s national forecast

An anticyclone is centred just north of the North Island today while a westerly airflow covers the rest of the country. Expect settled and mild conditions in the east, showers at times in the west especially about the South Islands West Coast.

Northland
Mostly sunny after any morning cloud clears, could be an early fog patch or two. Light winds.
Highs: 15-16

Auckland
A mix of sunny and cloudy spells with light westerly breezes. There is the low risk of a light shower at times (mainly morning), especially in the west.
High: 15

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Sunny spells and some cloud with westerly breezes. About the Waikato and Central North Island (especially in the west of these regions) expect more frequent areas of cloud and there may even be the odd light shower at times.
Highs: 12-15

Eastern North Island
Sunny with light winds and mild temperatures. Northwesterlies may be a little breezy about Wairarapa however.
High: 16-17

Western North Island
Cloudy periods with the odd light shower at times, west to northwest winds.
Highs: 14-15

Wellington
Mostly sunny with brisk northerlies.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny skies with northwest breezes, tending more westerly about Nelson. Mild temperatures for the Marlborough coast.
Highs: 13-15

Canterbury
Sunny with some high cloud from afternoon, light winds near the coast and northwest breezes inland. Northwesterlies spread to the coast later in the evenign or overnight.
Highs: 14-15

West Coast
Cloudy with showers, rain about South Westland and Fiordland from early afternoon. Northwest winds, strengthening from evening. Rain about Fiordland becomes heavy overnight.
High: 12-13

Coastal Otago
Sunny areas to start however thick high cloud moving in around midday, northwesterly winds gusty at times.
High: 13-14

Central Otago
Mostly cloudy skies with gusty northwest winds. The odd shower spreads from the west from afternoon onwards, especially about western parts of Central Otago.
High: 9-11

Southland
A few early sunny spells however high cloud then thickening. Expect gusty northwest winds. A few spots of rain move in overnight.
Highs: 13-14
