Monday’s national forecast

Settled sunny weather for most today as an anticyclone lies right over the country. Some cloud is likely to affect Fiordland, Gisborne, Northland and many other places morning and night. Gisborne may even see a few morning showers.

Upper North Island

Mostly sunny and clear weather with light winds, sea breezes about coastal areas however Northland will see southeasterly breezes with some cloud. Gisborne on the east coast will have a few morning showers then sunny breaks in the afternoon, cool southerlies ease.

Lower North Island

Mostly sunny and clear weather with light winds tending southeasterly. A few brief morning showers clear in Hawkes Bay then sunny areas developing with northeasterlies from late afternoon. Sunny areas and some cloud in Wairarapa with east to northeast breezes.
HIGHS: 22-28

Upper South Island

Sunny weather for most with some cloud possible morning and night, cloud may be a little more persistent during the day on the West Coast and about inland Canterbury. Expect sea breezes in coastal areas and light winds inland, northeasterlies getting a little breezy about the Kaikoura coast and Christchurch in the afternoon.
HIGHS: 20-25

Lower South Island

Sunny skies for most with light winds inland, sea breezes for Southland and coastal Otago. Cloudy periods in Fiordland however with northerlies.
HIGHS: 15-18

Warmest – Waikato, Central Otago

Windiest – Southeasterlies about the tip of Northland and the tip of East Cape will be fairly brisk, likewise for the southern tip of Fiordland however the winds there will be northerly. In second, northeasterlies for Christchurch and Kaikoura in the afternoon.

Sunniest – Most places will be clear and sunny tomorrow.

Wettest – Gisborne in the morning.
