A northwesterly airflow increases over the South Island today ahead of a front which moves onto the lower South Island around midday then the upper South Island in the evening. A ridge for the North Island gradually weakens.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny with some high cloud later this evening, there may be areas of low cloud / anticyclonic gloom in the west. Light winds.
Highs: 12-15

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, west to northwesterly winds increase.
Highs: 10-13

Eastern North Island
Sunny with some high cloud later on this evening, light winds.
Highs: 13-14

Wellington
Mostly cloudy with the chance of a shower from afternoon, overnight rain. Freshening northwesterly winds.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, north to northwesterly winds freshen. Late evening / overnight spots of rain.
Highs: 12-15

Canterbury
Thickening high cloud with a few spots of rain possible later this evening. Northeasterly winds near the coast, winds tend more northerly inland.
High: 14

West Coast
Cloudy, heavy rain about Fiordland spreads into North Westland later this afternoon / evening. Northerlies freshen.
High: 12

Southland & Otago
Thick high cloud, a few spots of rain possible in the afternoon then high cloud clears in the evening as north to northeasterly winds change westerly.
Highs: 10-13
