Monday’s national forecast

A low sitting off to the northeast drags a strong southerly quarter airflow over the North Island today, rain or showers for many regions heavy in the east. The South Island sees a south to southeasterly airflow with mainly sunny weather in the west and south, cloudy further north along the east coast.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Areas of rain with gusty south to southwesterly winds, Northland and Auckland may see plenty of dry areas in the afternoon.
Highs: 13-15

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy with the odd shower, rain moves in late afternoon / evening. Strong gusty southeasterly winds, rising to gale about Kapiti and many coastal areas especially southern Taranaki.
Highs: 11-13

Eastern North Island

Rain with heavy falls at times about Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, easing later in the evening. The Wairarapa sees the odd patchy shower then rain moves in late afternoon / evening possibly heavy. Strong south to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-13

Wellington

Cloudy with the odd shower, strong southerly winds gusting to gale at times especially afternoon on wards.
High: 10

Marlborough & Nelson

Mainly cloudy skies about Marlborough with strong southeasterly winds, the odd drizzle patch possible mainly later in the day. Nelson sees sunnier skies with cloud later in the day.
Highs: 12-14

Canterbury

A mainly cloudy day with the chance of a light shower or two, mainly Banks Peninsula northwards. Southerly winds.
Highs: 9-10

West Coast

A mainly sunny day with southeasterly winds.
High: 14

Southland & Otago

Sunny with light winds.
Highs: 10-14
