Monday Newsfeed: On the edge of high pressure + Tuesday & Friday southern cold fronts

The low from last week has gone and now high pressure is nearby – but not quite over us. Centred north-west of NZ the placement means westerly quarter winds will blow through for many places this week (although some coastal areas in the south may have nor’easters in the east for a time).

Showers continue in the west and south of NZ.

A cold front arrives in the lower South Island on Tuesday bringing rain and a dusting of snow on the mountains.

A stronger cold front arrives in the South Island on Friday with windier weather – but again won’t be too significant on any nationwide level. We’ll have full details today in our Monday Weekly Outlook video.
