A front moves northwards over the South Island during the day while a westerly airflow lies over the North Island.

For the upper North Island expect mostly sunny weather with moderate west to southwesterly breezes. There may be a few clouds at times in the west.

The lower North Island has a similar story, mainly sunny weather with just a few clouds at times in the west. Westerly winds in the west while the east coast has light winds in the morning, afternoon easterlies for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.

For the South Island we see rain for the West Coast of the South Island, heavy at times but easing during the afternoon and clearing for most in the evening although a few showers may hang about Buller overnight.

A few morning showers clear the lower South Island then sunny spells increase, chance of a further shower late afternoon / evening otherwise mainly dry. West to southwesterly winds.

A southerly change moves into South Canterbury in the morning reaching North Canterbury early afternoon bringing some cloud and a few showers which clear in the evening. Warm conditions before the change moves through.

Nelson and Marlborough has mainly sunny weather with north to northwesterly winds, perhaps a chance spot of rain in the evening otherwise dry. Warm afternoon temperatures.
