A ridge for the North Island on Wednesday while northeasterlies increase further south. A front pushes onto the country overnight from the west.

Sunny areas and increasing cloud for the upper North Island, chance of a shower from afternoon about Northland then some overnight rain. Light southwesterly winds tend northwest later on.

Mostly sunny about the lower western North Island, cloud thickens from afternoon in Taranaki and elsewhere in the evening then expect some overnight rain. Light winds tend northerly after midday. A mix of sun and cloud along the east coast with light winds tending east to northeast in the afternoon, some late high cloud.

Sunny areas and increasing cloud for Wellington, overnight showers. Light southerlies tend northerly in the afternoon.

Mostly sunny for Marlborough with some high cloud, thickening in the evening then expect some overnight rain. Nelson sees skies becoming cloudy in the morning, rain later in the evening. North to northeasterly winds.

Mostly sunny about Canterbury with some developing high cloud, chance late evening spot of rain. East to northeasterly winds.

Sunny areas and increasing cloud for the West Coast, some patchy rain moves afternoon / evening. Northeasterly winds freshen. Mostly sunny with some high cloud in Southland and Otago, light east to northeasterly winds. Coastal Otago sees thicker cloud and cooler temperatures with fresher ENE winds.

Blue – Heavy form of precipitation or cold temperatures, typically below 1 to 2 degrees celsius.
White – Snow
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
