A gusty east to southeasterly airflow eases over the North Island later on Thursday meanwhile a ridge starts to make some headway over the South Island.

Morning rain for the upper North Island (possibly heavy) then easing and clearing in the afternoon, sun breaks through after rain clears. Showers may hang about Northland for much of the day, not clearing till overnight. Breezy east to southeasterly winds.

Mostly sunny with some high cloud possible about the lower North Island in the west, southeasterly winds.

The odd drizzle patch or shower along the east coast, south to southeasterly winds. Mostly cloudy for Wellington, chance of a light shower or two. Breezy southeasterly winds.

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells about Marlborough, breezy southeasterly winds. A sunny day for Nelson, light winds tend northeast in the afternoon. A chance of morning drizzle about Canterbury, remaining mostly cloudy for the rest of the day. Light south to southeasterly winds.

Mostly sunny with some high cloud possible along the West Coast, light southeasterlies. Any morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather about Southland and inland Otago, cloud about coastal Otago may be a bit more persistent during the day. Light east to northeasterly winds.

Blue – Heavy form of precipitation or cold temperatures, typically below 1 to 2 degrees celsius.
White – Snow
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
