An anticyclone pushes in over New Zealand on Friday, a weak front moves over the North Island during the day.

Chance of a morning shower for the upper North Island, sunny spells otherwise with southwesterly winds. A few morning showers for the lower western North Island then sunny spells break through, southeasterly winds.

Cloudy or becoming cloudy in the morning along the east coast with southeasterly winds freshening, a few light showers about the Wairarapa in the morning then drying out in the afternoon. Chance of a shower further north in the afternoon otherwise mainly dry. Any morning showers clear Wellington then sunny areas increase. Southeasterly winds ease in the evening.

Cloudy areas and occasional sun for Nelson and Marlborough, chance of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening for inland areas. East to southeasterly winds for Marlborough, afternoon northerlies in Nelson. Any early drizzle clears Canterbury, cloud breaks to some sun in the afternoon mainly near the coast. East to northeasterly winds freshen.

Mostly sunny weather along the West Coast with light winds in the morning then afternoon west to southwest winds. Mostly sunny after any morning cloud breaks away about Southland and inland Otago. Northwesterlies about Southland tending west to southwest in the afternoon. Light winds for inland areas. East to northeasterly winds for eastern Otago with some cloud hugging the coastline during the day.

Blue – Heavy form of precipitation – or – low temperatures, typically below 1 to 2 degrees celsius.
White – Snow
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
