InfoGraphic: The Big Picture for Monday / Tuesday

An anticyclone covers New Zealand today bringing mainly settled weather. This anticyclone weakens on Tuesday especially over the North Island where easterlies build and a low to the northwest moves closer during the day.

Mostly sunny for the North Island today however there may be some fog morning and night about southern Northland through to the Central North Island. Areas of high cloud also and some mid level cloud for northern Northland and Taranaki through to Kapiti. The West Coast of the South Island has cloudy periods, drizzle for Fiordland. Mostly sunny in the east.

Thickening cloud for much of the North Island on Tuesday, rain about Northland gradually spreads southwards during the day over the upper North Island. Easterly winds becoming gusty offshore. The South Island has mostly sunny weather, perhaps some morning mid level cloud about the far south. Areas of fog or mist possible for inland areas in the morning.
