A front pushes over the country today moving from west to east, the front will clear the South Island in the afternoon however doesn’t clear the North Island till overnight. Northerlies ahead of the front then tending northwest in behind.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Rain develops late morning, clearing evening as northerlies change westerly.
Highs: 19-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy with rain developing in the morning, easing to showers in the afternoon as northerlies tend northwest. Showers clear in the evening.
Highs: 17-20

Eastern North Island

Thick high cloud, some rain spreads from the west in the afternoon then clearing in the evening. Breezy north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-23

Wellington

Showers from morning then clearing late afternoon, northerly winds tend strong northwest in the evening.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Some rain (heavy for a time about Nelson), clearing mid afternoon then becoming mostly sunny as breezy northerlies tend strong northwest.
Highs: 19-20

Canterbury

Chance spot of rain in the morning then becoming mostly sunny after midday, northeasterly winds tend gusty northwest in the afternoon. Northwesterlies may be strong with a risk of winds gusting to gale at times mainly inland.
High: 23

West Coast

Rain, possibly heavy at times with thunderstorms. Breezy northeasterly winds tend northwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-17

Southland & Otago

Early rain clears then mostly sunny by midday, the odd shower from late afternoon about Southland. Northeasterly winds tend gusty northwest during late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 21-22
