A southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, potentially becoming unstable this afternoon for eastern regions.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells, a few showers pass through now and then. The Bay Of Plenty is mainly dry although a shower or two may pass over from the west at times. Breezy west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Showers, the odd brief heavy fall possible mainly about Manawatu then clearing late afternoon or evening. The odd shower may make headway again overnight. Westerly winds.
Highs: 15-16

Eastern North Island

Showers move into the Wairarapa in the morning then further north in the afternoon as southwesterly winds freshen, showers may be heavy with a risk of thunderstorms and hail then clearing in the evening. Some sun before shower move in.
Highs: 16-19

Wellington

Morning showers clear then expect sunny spells, southerlies tend northerly by midday.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny, northerlies change southwest in the evening bringing the chance of a shower.
Highs: 17-18

Canterbury

Sunny spells after any early showers clear, showers move into South Canterbury in the afternoon reaching up to about Banks Peninsula in the evening. Showers may be heavy with a risk of thunderstorms and hail then clearing overnight. Winds mainly light tending ENE near the coast.
Highs: 15-17

West Coast

Rain develops about South Westland in the morning then moves into North Westland during the afternoon. Northwesterlies change west to southwest after midday.
High: 14-15

Southland & Otago

Showers, especially from afternoon where showers may be heavy then clearing later in the evening. Northwesterly winds change southwest after midday.
Highs: 14-16
