Friday’s national forecast

A northerly airflow lies over the North Island today. Cloudy in the north with rain for Northland spreading south evening and overnight. The South Island is mainly settled with a northwesterly airflow.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

High cloud thickens from morning spreading southwards. Some rain develops about Northland in the afternoon then late afternoon or evening elsewhere. Rain may be heavy overnight about Auckland southwards for a time. North to northeasterly winds.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, late evening some rain moves into Taranaki then overnight further south. North to northwesterly winds.

Eastern North Island
A sunny day with northerly winds. High cloud develops later in the evening then overnight expect a few spots of rain.
High: 17
 
Wellington
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, breezy northwesterly winds.
High: 13
 
Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny with north to northwesterly winds picking up in the afternoon. Nelson sees cloud develop overnight with a few showers.
Highs: 12-15
 
Canterbury
Sunny with north to northwesterly breezes, while winds tend more northeast near the coast from afternoon.
High: 13-14
 
West Coast
Areas of cloud with north to northeasterly winds. South Westland is mainly cloudy with the odd light shower then rain there from evening.
Highs: 10-12
 
Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud, northwesterly winds tend more northerly by evening. Winds gradually increase during the day.
Highs: 9-13
