A rainmaking system has arrived, meaning showers in parts of both islands today – though the high temperatures which have typified summer so far are sticking around for most.

Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Bay of Plenty and Waikato

Cloudy periods with afternoon build ups producing some heavy showers. Light winds and sea breezes. Showers in Hawkes Bay will likely be north of Mohaka and well inland.

Tonight’s Low: 13 – 16

Rest of the North Island

A mix of sun and cloud. Cooler inland at night but hotter there during the day.
Highs: 23 to 27
Tonight’s Lows: 10 to 15

Marlborough & Nelson

A mostly sunny day with just the risk of late shower in the southern ranges of Marlborough. Light northerlies
Highs: 25 to 27
Tonight’s Lows: 9 to 13

West Coast

Patchy rain or showers. Rain more likely south of Hokitika. Light northerlies.
Highs: 21 to 25
Tonight’s Low: 12

Southland, Central & Coastal Otago, Canterbury

Showers, some may be heavy in the afternoon. It’s hit and miss but could be a few solid downpours in dry areas. Canterbury will remain mainly dry north of Ashburton. Light NW winds
Highs: 21 coastal to 25 inland
Tonight’s Low: 8 to 12
