Friday’s national forecast

Fairly settled today under a ridge of high pressure, a few isolated showers may develop this afternoon / evening however about inland parts of the North Island and lower South Island. A low pressure system north of the country continues to bring some rain to Northland during the day which finally clears overnight.

Cloudy with periods of rain, especially in the northeast with southeasterly winds. There could be a dry spell about this morning. Rain clears
overnight.

Periods of cloud with southerlies tending easterly this aftyernoon, chance
of a sunny break about now and then.
Highs: 18-19

Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas and some cloud, light southerlies tend east to northeast this
morning.
High: 17

Waikato & Central North Island

Sunny areas develop this morning, cloud builds again in the afternoon and a
few isolated showers developing which clear later in the evening. Showers could
be heavy with a risk of thunderstorms. Light winds.

Eastern North Island

Sunny spells with east to southeasterly winds, chance of an isolated shower
late afternoon / evening mainly about the ranges.
Highs: 16-17

Taranaki

Mainly sunny with west to southwesterly winds.
High: 17-18

Western North Island

Mostly sunny with light winds, sea breezes near the coast after midday.
Chance of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening about Tararua
Ranges.
High: 17-18

Wellington

Early cloud clears to sunny weather, light south to southeasterly
winds.

Nelson

Sunny with light winds, tending northeast in the afternoon.

Marlborough

Sunny with light winds, any early cloud clears.

Canterbury

Any morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, northeasterlies near the
coast and light winds inland with warmer temperatures. Some high cloud develops
later in the evening.

West Coast

Mostly sunny with light westerlies, cloud builds about Fiordland in the
afternoon with some rain moving in.
High: 14

Coastal Otago

Sunny areas and some cloud increasing from midday, a few showers move in
late afternoon / evening then clearing later. Light north to northeasterly
winds.
Highs: 15-16

Central Otago

Sunny with a few clouds building from midday, northwesterly winds. In the
evening a few light spells of rain move in.
Highs: 15-16

Southland

Sunny with some cloud, cloud increases from afternoon then expect some late
afternoon / evening rain with a westerly change. Rain clears before
midnight.
Highs: 16-17
