Christmas Day Newsfeed: Warm, muggy, showery weather continues

A northwesterly airflow brings humid warm weather to the North Island today, the upper North Island especially experiences the muggiest conditions. But along with these muggy conditions comes cloud, showers and potential afternoon downpours with thunder. Check out our thunderstorm link below for more. Taranaki through to Wellington may see showers this morning then sunny areas break through, early spits or showers in the east clear to some sun and hot weather then further showers develop this evening north of Napier.

The West Coast of the South Island is a bit wet but may dry out in spots this afternoon, Nelson and Marlborough have great weather with warm temperatures and high cloud to ease the sun. Rain for Southland and Otago this morning then easing to showers / sunny spells, one or two showers could be heavy this afternoon with thunder for Otago. Canterbury is mainly dry but expect some cloud, a few showers may sneak into South Canterbury, very warm for North Canterbury and the Mackenzie Country.

Unstable conditions again for the upper North Island on boxing day with torrential downpours possible.
