Chance of heavy rain in the north – The Big Picture on Wednesday

A similar pattern continues on Wednesday as it did today. An anticyclone covers the South Island bringing mainly settled conditions after a frosty start. For the North Island a low pressure system near Northland brings some rain to the Auckland / Northland regions with the chance of heavy rain for a few areas.

For the North Island we see some rain about northern parts of Auckland and Northland during the day, there is the chance of a heavy fall here mainly in the east. Torrential falls are not expected. Winds for this part of the North Island may be fairly gusty during the day from the southeast also.

The East Coast of the North Island (Gisborne to Wairarapa) has mainly cloudy skies, a few showers for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. Sunnier in the west of the Island.

For the South Island it’s a mainly sunny day after a frosty start, winds are light although an east to northeasterly breeze brings a fresh feeling for the Canterbury Plains in the afternoon and evening.
