Boxing Day Newsfeed: Rain, eastern South Island

Conditions are drying out so some rain for the east coast of the South Island will be welcome today, starting out about Southland and Otago this morning, reaching Canterbury this afternoon and then perhaps eventually southern Marlborough. On the change moving through North Otago then Canterbury there is a chance of thunder.

The West Coast has some wet weather too, clearing up this evening. Nelson has a mainly dry day.

The North Island has the warmest temperatures today reaching into the mid to late twenties, expect showers, one or two isolated heavy falls possible with thunder this afternoon in the northeast (Northland through to East Cape), there will be a few sunny spells breaking through. There is a chance central areas may see an isolated heavy fall but the risk is less. Wellington has a nice day then a few showers this evening with southerlies.

High pressure covers more of the country on Wednesday, eastern regions are looking cloudy with potential showers or drizzle and it will be brighter out west and in the far south. Hot for the upper North Island with highs reaching into the late twenties for areas away from the coast.
