Fingers crossed for wedding

Hey guys,

I'm getting married outdoors this Saturday 29th Sept in Albany.
Are we going to be safe outdoors or will my guests have to bring their wellys and waterproof poncho's?

Thanks
Typical kiwi guy with a she'll be right attitude!

At this stage it's looking

At this stage it's looking dry mostly although there is the risk of a shower. It is still 5 days away so a little hard to nut out at this point in time. There is some pressure being applied to the situation with a low to the north and another system to the west of New Zealand around that time. So if they speed up the situation could change but hopefully it doesn't deteriorate as we get closer to Saturday.

Cheers

warmer weather

Hi there
I am so over this cold spring weather. Can you please tell me when it is likely to get to 20 deg?
Thanks
John

Higher then 20 deg's eh?

Higher then 20 deg's eh? There could be a few nice days perhaps later this coming week. Not sure about the temperature getting over 20 but 18's could be on the cards. We still aren't really near warm summer like temperatures yet as we head into the end of September, just a case of waiting it out for a few months really!

sunday 30th

got a track day at pukekohe any chance il be getting the knee down or umbrella up?cheers

Looks like anticyclonic

Looks like anticyclonic weather next Sunday so bets are on for settled weather with perhaps sunny skies. It is a while out though and you can get cloudy gloomy days with anticyclones depending on the airflow. Keep an eye out on here for the latest forecasts and hopefully it works out!

waiheke

hey just wondering is it gona be good day to visit waiheke island this saturday?? thanx

Hi, looks great at this stage

Hi, looks great at this stage - a few clouds and nor'east winds.  Could be a little bit windy and cool if it clouds over, but at this stage going for about 16 or 17 degrees wth sun and cloud :)

raining in south Auckland now

Hey guys its raining in south Auckland atm with no mention of rain thought I would just let you know

 Thanks for that - and

Thanks for that - and apologies for it not being in the forecast. Wind direction didn't quite go as planned so a few showers clipping Auckland (mostly near the western coastline).  Looks like they'll continue overnight but nothing much.  Typical anyticyclonic gloom!

Summer

Hi there!

I was just wondering what sort of summer auckland would be in for this year? Do you think we could be up to 30 degrees?
Last summer was a bit of a bust with all the rain so I was really hoping for a scorcher! I know its probably super hard to tell since its quite far away and all.

Thanks :)

Hi there - at this stage

Hi there - at this stage summer may be a bit like winter and spring - no strong dominating weather pattern.  There were talks of El Nino forming and while that still looks likely at the moment it appears to be on hold.  El Nino isn't especially hot for Auckland as it brings more cloud and westerlies into the city.  But we think this summer will be hotter than last summer.  We will have a much better idea as we head towards November.

Facebook

I have just read your piece about following you on Facebook for updates that aren't shown on your website. As someone who doesn't use Facebook, can you please explain why you would put information there but not on your website. As I reply on your site for valuable information in times of extreme weather, it concerns me somewhat that access to such information might be limited. I really appreciate all the work you and your team do to keep us informed. Well done. Thank you.

Hi there - thanks for the

Hi there - thanks for the question.  Basically Facebook is better set up for small updates that don't require an actual news story - for example "Band of heavy showers about to hit Wellington in the next hour".  However we are looking at migrating those updates from Facebook onto our WW page too - so you dont have to be on FB to see those updates (but you would need to be signed up if you wanted to comment on FB updates).  So hopefully by the end of the year or early next year FB and WW will be combined on our homepage - as we don't like anyone missing out on ANY of our updates!

Cheers

P.S - thanks for your support! :)  Much appreciated.

Double Drat!

I have tons of washing out and it's as black as over the CBD - are we in for a downpour and thunder??

20% of the city should see a

20% of the city should see a light shower or drizzle patch today - but no thunderstorms or major downpours for Auckland. :)

Some cloud

Drat, was expecting a sunny just about cloud free day & it is very cloudy with patches of sun -New Lynn

is there a big storm coming Phillip?

check out weather right now...kinda freaky over takapuna..

Just some big but low level

Just some big but low level clouds moving through - the thickness makes them look extra dark and ominous but nothing much around Auckland at the moment, 80% dry with a few brief showers here and there.

is there a big storm coming Phillip?

cheers for replying.

Some Monday Praise

I'd just like to say what an awesome job you guys do here. Your forecasts are always as accurate as possible, specific and well worded. You really do blow Metservice out of the water. I switched to WW quite some time ago and have never been disappointed and I have even converted my family and friends! So thank you! and keep up the good work - A Big Fan.

is there a big storm coming Phillip?

lol ive converted everyone too hahaha, Weather Watch are the weather BOSS!

Wow - that is incredibly kind and supportive of you, thank you!  We really do appreciate comments like this - makes what we do so worthwhile! :)

Pukekohe

Lightening storm passed through Pukekohe about 10-15 mins ago - Telly

this is metservice's criteria

this is metservice's criteria for a severe thunderstorm warning

MetService uses the following criteria for severe thunderstorms in New Zealand:
Heavy rain (from thunderstorms): Rainfall of 25 millimetres per hour, or more.
Large hail: Hailstones 20 millimetres in diameter, or larger.
Strong wind gusts (from thunderstorms): Gusts of 110 kilometres per hour (60 knots) or stronger.
Damaging tornadoes: Fujita F1 (wind speeds greater than 116 kilometres per hour (63 knots)) or stronger.

I'm slightly confused as to how the storm we just had didn't warrant a warning, or a watch at least.

we had all of those (maybe smaller hail and no tornado, but looking @ the 'ufo cloud' there certianly was a risk for one)

your pre-warning on facebook meant i could get the washing in pronto. with it only having a few drips on it.

thanks guys keep up the awesome work :)

Yeah, thanks Mel Baker for

Yeah, thanks Mel Baker for the pre-warning on the thunderstorm. Shame WW didn't mention any thunderstorms in their forecast until 15 minutes after her post.

No

problems :) Could it see it coming in from the Kaipara so thought I should say something especially when the thunder started! The intense hail storm was scary though - lasted over 10 minutes :(

I find your reply very rude.

I find your reply very rude. Weatherwatch did an amazing job. even if it was 15 minutes after her post, they had to make sure it was moving, so that they dont make a wrong forecast. just because its raining in Hellensville doesnt mean it will be raining in Henderson. Be greatful, if you were looking at metservice, they didnt mention a thing. weatherwatch did a great job, and for that i thank them. for you on the other hand, grow up and become paitent. at least they told us about it!

We were unsure if they were

We were unsure if they were going to move beyond there, which is why it wasn't included in the forecast until the western ranges suddenly fired up. Yes, it would've been good to have predicted earlier but you have to note these thunderstorms developed within minutes.  We were the only forecaster to include thunderstorms in our public forecasts for 3 hours this evening - at least we were awake and monitoring the skies!

- WW

We were unsure if they were

EXACTLY!!

:) the only reason ppls are hassling WW is because they know WW are the kings of weather now! so deal with it.

:D

Thanks for your support -

Thanks for your support - maybe one day we'll be big enough to take the Govt contract from them! :)

Rain in Auckland - Sunday 16th September

Hi, I dont understand the rain radar / rain forecast maps, so sorry for asking, but is rain expected between 6am and midday on the north shore tomorrow? Looking forward to your response.
Thanks. Aviva

Hi Aviva,At this stage the

Updated reply: 6:29am Sunday

Hi Aviva,

Unfortunately the front has stalled over Auckland (we knew it was going to stall but everything pointed towards that happening further east of Auckland!). Looks as though the rain may linger for a few more hours into Sunday - the late departure of the rain may mean a later arrival for the following showers expected this afternoon.

Sunday

Hi Guys - still lovin' your work - but the forecast for Sunday is somewhat interesting!!!

 Hi there - apologies about

Hi there - apologies about that - we have a small bug in the system and are currently changing things behind the scenes to strengthen our site and prepare for more growth - hopefully this bug will be gone soon.  You'll notice there is a full Sunday forecast next to the one that says "n/a"

HAIL

very heavy hail in Kingslasnd right now...the road is white and there is buildup on car bonnets and windscreens!!

There must be a wind chill on

There must be a wind chill on that wind today, as right now (8:00am) metservice is telling me it 14 degrees but sure does not feel like it....

Who's going to blink first.....

As at 11/9 5.37am Metservice has Saturday showing "Fine - dry with northwesterlies", and you guys have "Rain developing late morning or around midday". Who's going to blink first..................

MetService now has rain

MetService now has rain developing :)

WW

Top work!

Top work!

Damn

I was hoping MS were going to be right on this one - I need it fine until 1pm!!!

Haha! Welll, fingers crossed

Haha! Welll, fingers crossed it arrives later in the day - most models seem to think the rain won't get going until during Saturday afternoon - will have a much better idea tomorrow evening.

WW

Hi, can you guys help real

Hi, can you guys help real quick?
How's the weather looking for Sat-Sun, 15th and 16th?
Cheers :)

Starts settled, but...

Saturday morning and afternoon should be settled.  Saturday night a quick-hitting Tasman low is expected to push across the top of the country bringing some showers with it.  On Sunday, the northerlies will turn into southwesterlies on the back side of that low which could keep things a bit unsettled into Monday.  Although the best chance for rain will be gone by midday Sunday.

That's the way it looks now.  But that's still a week out, so there will likely need to be some fine-tuning done as we get closer.

Weathermap

Strange. Today when I clicked on the weathermap, the Avast anti-virus on my PC warned me that it detected the js.Redirector-ZK trojan horse. The page that triggered the warning was this :
