Weather Forecast for Hastings

Hi there, we don't closely monitor their long range forecasts as they are often unhelpful. We do know we have some changes south of NZ affecting our pattern right now (why we are getting more lows and SW winds) but nothing yet jumping out as any major polar changes. In fact even with a southerly change coming in tonight both Friday and Saturday afternoons still look warmer than average in many parts of NZ.

Hi there, no we have removed that now. For a time we wondered if a little surge of heavy showers might come in with the southerly but that doesn't look likely now.

Hi there, yes we have a risk of thunder and hail. Our latest weather video which will be up later this morning explains the risks. We also have special maps on our homepage news section right now showing the thunderstorm risks for the next few days ahead.

Hi there, NIWA has a reputation for being as accurate as the flip of a coin for seasonal forecasting. Basically they are saying spring will be stormy...that's pretty normal! It does seem more unsettled now than it was a month ago, but also some signs we have some incoming calm also, thanks to big highs in the mix too (next week doesn't look too bad at this stage, for example). We focus on monthly outlooks as seasonal in NZ can be a bit laughable at times. :) Cheers for your support and kind message, we really appreciate it.

Hi there, thanks very much for the support and kind words, they mean a great deal to us! At this stage we see normal to above normal temperatures coming in for Auckland. A little cooler in the days ahead but next week looks quite pleasant at times. As for summer, too far out to know but global trends (and even NZ trends) have been showing some warmer than average set ups for the past few years. We'll have more details about September's outlook later next week :)

Hi there

That's 10 to 11 days away so anything I say now will more then likely change by the time the 30th comes around, becomes a little redundant.

However in saying that this is what I'm seeing currently. Friday has some rain gradually clearing away. Sat and Sun have areas of cloud, perhaps some sun, perhaps even the risk of a light shower or two otherwise mainly dry, winds moderate from the southwest.

But yeah, this will most likely change.

Not sure regarding last night sorry, I personally wasn't on board then.

As for today you are right, initial modeling showed showers clearing this afternoon but clearly they nearly hung around till evening. Just a choatic day where not everything went to plan, it happens sometimes :(

Hi there, when the long range thunderstorm risk is low or isolated it's not usually put into the forecasts as otherwise people tend to focus on it as the main thing. Even this risk is quite low end risk, just wanted to mention it due to the recent thunderstorms. For the most part they are weakening already but there just may be a few isolated flashes here and there.

Hi there, yes correct the high that comes in next week doesn't last long. We get a southerly towards the end of next week then it may start to ease again by next weekend. Won't be able to lock in until Monday.

Feel free to check out our Auckland forecasts, we update them every day. Might give some insight into what is happening for Auckland re rain or dry weather coming up.

Auckland being where it is can often get rain or showers due to nothing blocking weather coming in from the west where most of out weather comes from. The east coast of NZ is protected by mountains to the west so naturally anyone out east can experience nice sunny / dry days more often but often nights are colder.

G'day there

Saturday looks cloudy, the odd shower then rain from late afternoon, easing overnight. Snow to 800m in the evening then lowering to 500m overnight. Brisk to strong northwesterly winds.

Sunday morning sees showers and snow flurries to 500m clear then afternoon sunny spells, winds fresh from the southeast.

The air does get pretty cold from Saturday afternoon but the rate of precipitation falls quite a lot also as that really cold air arrives. Meaning as the cold air arrives it's just a shower or two at times.

I would say a chance of a flurry to sea level (10 to 20% chance) but mostly you are going to be looking at a dusting on the top of the Port Hills once this system passes through after the weekend. So typical cold winter stuff really.
