If you have any questions about functionality of our website(s) or app, trying to locate maps or data, or have a simple comment/feedback - please post a comment below!

As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.

We’re a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather. You can find more resources from us here if that’s your thing.

Have questions of a commercial nature? Contact us directly here.

Thanks for your support!

Don’t forget to check out our RuralWeather.co.nz website (great for event planning or attending + camping!) and also, our brand new Weather Alerting App!

Where does the chance of rain come from for the day?
I looked at tomorrow’s chance of rain for my area and it’s 0% but when I look at the hourly, It ranges from 1-14%, none of them is 0%

WW Forecast Team on 18/04/2024 9:30am

Daily figures show 7am to 7pm, hourly shows hourly. Sometimes it will say 0% because the rain is in the other section. If that’s not the case please let us know which location so we can take a look. There have been a couple bugs in the system lately and it’s possible this is connected to that.
Thanks

Hey guys, I get the weather is hard to predict at the moment but it’s bloody annoying when the forecast says “Trace” amount of rain and “Partly cloudy. Breezy West to Sou’West winds.” and then it torrentially chucks it down all the way from Mt Wellington to Albany.

WW Forecast Team on 18/04/2024 12:46am

Hi there, appreciate the frustration – but be angry with the Government – it’s Niwa and MetService who have commercialised/blocked access to tax funded radar and tax funded weather data which (as we’ve said for 15 years now) would fix that very problem.

Lobby your local MP or the Government to make change – they have their second review in place now, after entirely ignoring the last review in 2017 which said NZ weather data is expensive and hard to access or use for the good of the public.

We can only do so much as a small business – yet the rainfall data we use is still more accurate overall than Government agencies Niwa and MetService when it comes to rain forecasting. Most accurate = perfection though.

Cheers

Interesting weather in Europe at present: Temperature anomaly between the past Sunday (April 14th) and the following Sunday (April 21st), from around 15 °C too warm to more than 10 °C below average temperature.

Why is my town, Kaiapoi nth Canterbury suddenly showing up with Christchurch weather. Christchurch weather and Kaiapoi vary daily. Raining in chch sunny in Kaiapoi etc etc
Is this now your weather forecast for Kaiapoi, another cities?

WW Forecast Team on 15/04/2024 9:24pm

Hi there, we’re not sure why this has happened. We’ve had another person contact us with a similar issue, where it shows some local data but then the forecasts are for a larger location close/nearby. We’re looking into it, so thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Regards,
– WW
