Weather Video: Large high for NZ may create isolated downpours + sub-tropical low for weekend

Filed in:

An enormous high pressure system from Australia is visiting New Zealand this weekend potentially ahead of a weekend sub-tropical low.

The next five days ahead are mainly dry and calm around both islands of New Zealand as a very large belt of high pressure crosses over the country, extending both west and east from central areas.

However the top of the high, around the upper North Island, is likely to have more of an easterly flow.

This easterly will push in some humidity into warmer inland areas and this will create cloudy areas in the morning that may turn to afternoon downpours here and there. There’s even a chance of thunder.

But for the most part the week ahead is dry, with hotter than usual weather around the lower and western South Island again. Meanwhile this weekend all eyes will again be on the sub-tropics as another system forms and becomes “one to watch” as it may directly move in.
