Cold southwesterlies spread over New Zealand today.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning rain, possibly heavy with thunder (thunder possible more so Waikato eastwards) then easing to showers during the afternoon as northwesterly winds change southwest. Some sun breaks through from afternoon.
Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
The odd shower, more so from afternoon as light winds change southwest. Snow lowers to 500m overnight about the Central North Island.
Highs: 13-15

Eastern North Island

Morning sun with some high cloud, afternoon showers develop as light winds tend southwest. Overnight snow to 400m about Wairarapa.
Highs: 15-18

Wellington

Mostly cloudy, the odd shower, some overnight rain with snow to 400m. Light winds tend to the south in the afternoon.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny areas and increasing cloud, showers from evening. Overnight snow to 400m about the ranges of Marlborough. Southerly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Canterbury

A dry morning then showers from afternoon as southwesterly winds freshen. There is a risk of small hail, showers more persistent for inland areas with snow flurries to 300m by evening. Showers clear overnight.
Highs: 8-11

West Coast

There may be some morning sun then expect increasing cloud, afternoon / evening showers then clearing away. Southwesterly winds change southeast at night.
Highs: 11-14

Southland & Otago
Showers, heavy in the morning with a risk of small hail then easing with dry spells from afternoon. The odd snow flurry lowers to 300m after midday. Showers clear later in the evening about Central Otago, cold overnight. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 8-10
