Sunday's national forecast (+2 InfoGraphics)

Temperatures bounce back today in the eastern and southern North Island but another cold front moves up the South Island bringing a colder day to Otago and Canterbury. A very large high pressure zone is centred between Tasmania and Stewart Island and is bringing a southerly flow to New Zealand.

NORTH ISLAND:
A few coastal showers in the east clear away early today but may return again overnight. A little warmer in the south and east. Mainly dry elsewhere but a few light showers may also brush Auckland from the Tasman Sea - otherwise a dry day with lighter winds. Sunny in Waikato and many other areas inland. Southerlies pick up in Wellington at the end of the day and clouds increase as the weak front in the South Island moves closer and tracks by to the east overnight. Warmer in most places today with daytime highs around average.
Highs: 16 to 22

SOUTH ISLAND:
A weak cold front moves up the South Island today bringing a few showers into Southland, Otago and Canterbury, but overall a mainly dry day. High pressure increases as the day goes in which will help clear skies. A colder than average day in Otago, Canterbury and possibly some parts of Southland. Warmest on the West Coast, Nelson and Blenheim.
Highs: 9 to 19
