Severe Weather for Victoria again - warnings issued

An almost stationary trough over the southeast is bringing heavy rain and severe storms throughout much of Victoria.

The remnants of Tropical Cyclone Yasi brought large amounts of moisture into the interior and southeast, which enhanced storm development.

A Severe Weather Warning for flash flooding was issued earlier today for all districts.

Storms are already firing up over much of the state bringing widespread showers, especially heavy in northeastern and central parts of the state.

Beechworth in the Northeast received 57mm in only six hours. Mildura in the Mallee recorded flash flooding with falls up to 11mm in only ten minutes.

Widespread rain with heavy falls should continue until Saturday 5th when a cold front moves across the state.

Rain totals in excess of 100mm are expected tomorrow for the north and east. Higher rainfall totals are possible on the ranges.

In Melbourne rain should mostly ease tomorrow after lunchtime but further north the severe weather is not expected to ease until Sunday when a ridge of high pressure clears skies.
