Scorching! Low - mid 30s C forecast this weekend and across next week, we break down where:

This week is a bit all over the place temperature-wise, but this weekend and across next week look much hotter nationwide as winds swing more northerly.

Over the weekend those in the east and inland will gradually heat up, climbing over 30 degrees on Monday in places like Blenheim and Hastings and Napier. In fact highs inland in some areas may reach towards the mid 30s next week in some pockets as temperatures soar thanks to northerly quarter winds.

Northern and inland areas of both islands will feel the heat too, with Waikato climbing into the low 30s next week at times.

Many other regions and coastal towns will be in the mid to late 20s.

It's not just the east and north - southern parts of the South Island will bounce back to summer after some chilly days this week (including another cool day coming on Thursday with highs of just 12 to 19 degrees). By the weekend Alexandra will be cracking the 30 degree mark. Coastal Southland will warm up several degrees next week but the hottest weather will be further inland in Northland Southland.

Auckland Anniversary Weekend is also this coming weekend with half of New Zealand's population enjoying a three day weekend. Each day progressively should get hotter with Monday looking hot, dry and fairly sunny in most places.
