Saturday’s national forecast

Finally this is the last day of our big storm causing low. Rain in the east of the South Island with snow to low levels possibly sea level at times Canterbury southwards clearing later in the day. Inclement weather also affects the lower and eastern North Island. The odd shower elsewhere with long dry spells too.

Northland, Auckland
A mix of sunny and cloudy spells with breezy southwesterlies. The odd shower at times also particularly evening.
Highs: 13-14

Bay Of Plenty & Waikato
Mostly sunny with some cloud at times, chance of a late evening shower, southwest breezes.
Highs: 11-13

Central North Island
South of Lake Taupo about the Central Plateau. Showers and snow flurries to 700m, chance of a sunny spell even. In the afternoon showers become more persistent with snow to 600m. Cold south to southwest winds. North of Lake Taupo conditions are expected to be mainly dry with southwest winds and areas of cloud, perhaps a late afternoon or evening shower.

Hawkes Bay & Gisborne
Showers at times with cold southwesterlies, snow flurries to 800m in the morning lowering to 500m at night. During the morning there may be long dry spells with even a few sunny periods. Showers more persistent from afternoon.
High: 9-11

Wairarapa
Showers at times with cold southwesterlies, snow flurries to 700m in the morning lowering to 400m by evening then clearing at night.
High: 8-10

Western North Island
Rain from this morning, south to southwest winds. Some snow above 600m.
Highs: 11-12

Wellington
Rain with strong cold southerlies, snow to 600m lowers to 300m in the evening. Areas of precipitation clearing overnight.
Highs: 9-10

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly cloudy with cold southerly winds, rain or showers ease afternoon then clear in the evening with some snow to 400m.
Highs: 7-9

Canterbury
Wintry showers with snow to low levels, possibly sea level at times slowly easing during the day and clearing later in the evening or at night. Cold south to southwest winds.
Highs: 4-6

West Coast
Sunny spells and some cloud with southerlies.
Highs: 10-11

Coastal Otago
Wintry showers, low level snow flurries at times clearing in the evening. Cold southwesterlies die out later. Frosty at night.
High: 5-6

Central Otago
Morning snow flurries clear then sunny spells develop. Cold southerlies die out in the afternoon. Cold temperatures with a frosty evening expected
Highs: 2-3

Southland
Morning wintry showers with snow to low levels clearing, sunny spells in the afternoon with light northwesterlies developing. Overnight northwesterlies increase with a few showers moving in.
Highs: 4-6
