A northwesterly airflow builds over the country today with an anticyclone centred west of the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny with some mid and high level cloud, Northland sees more frequent cloud with the risk of a shower in the afternoon. There may also be an early shower for eastern Bay Of Plenty then clearing. Southwesterly winds for most however an afternoon sea breeze develops about eastern Northland.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud with northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-23

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, northwesterlies. Afternoon east to northeast breezes possible about coastal Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Highs: 25-28

Sunny spells with northerly winds.
High: 21

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and some high cloud, afternoon north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 25-29

Sunny areas and some high cloud, northwesterlies for most however tending northeast about the coast. Northwesterlies push through to the coast in the evening. There may be a spot of rain about South Canterbury for a time around midday.
Highs: 25-28

West Coast
Mostly cloudy about South Westland with patchy rain or showers, winds from the northeast. North Westland sees cloudy areas and occasional sun but mainly dry, winds from the west or northwest.
Highs: 19-23

Southland & Otago
A cloudy morning for Southland with some scattered rain, it may dry out for a time in the afternoon and becoming brighter then further scattered rain late afternoon / evening. Otago has thick high cloud, some scattered rain from late morning then clearing in the afternoon. North to northwesterly winds becoming gusty late afternoon.
