A ridge brings mainly settled and sunny weather to the South Island today. Meanwhile a low pressure system brings rain for eastern parts of the North Island, showers for western regions of the North Island too however mainly this afternoon.

Northland
Sunny spells with westerly winds, isolated showers from afternoon possible heavy then clearing in the evening. Southwesterlies freshen from late afternoon.

Auckland

Risk of some fog first thing this morning then expect sunny spells with
light winds. A few isolated showers move in this afternoon possibly heavy then
clearing in the evening, winds change southerly after midday.
High: 15

Bay Of Plenty

Mostly sunny this morning, cloud a little more frequent this afternoon with
a few isolated showers possible. Southwesterly winds.
High: 15

Waikato & Central North Island

Sunny areas this morning with light winds after any early fog clearing,
isolated showers move in this afternoon with south to southwesterly winds
freshening. About southern parts of the Central North Island expect areas of
rain especially from afternoon, snow above 800m then clearing overnight.

Eastern North Island

Cloudy with areas of rain, more patchy about the Wairarapa. Rain for Hawkes
Bay (especially in the north) and about Gisborne becoming heavy then clearing
overnight. Brisk south to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 11-12

Taranaki

Sunny spells with southeasterlies freshening this morning, chance of a
shower or two mainly this afternoon.
Highs: 11-12

Western North Island

Periods of rain clearing this evening, southeasterly winds.
High: 10

Wellington

Showers ease then clear by midday, sunny spells increase in the afternoon.
Southeasterlies die out this evening.

Nelson

Sunny with light winds, any early cloud clears.
High: 12

Marlborough

Chance of an early shower, cloud breaking away to becoming mostly sunny by
midday. Southeasterlies ease dying out in the evening.

Canterbury

Sunny with light winds inland, northeasterlies freshen up this afternoon
near the coast.
Highs: 10-11

West Coast

Sunny with light winds. Cloud increases about Fiordland from midday then
expect some late afternoon or evening drizzle.

Coastal Otago

Sunny with light winds.
High: 12

Central Otago

Mostly sunny with northwesterly winds, some late cloud especially in the
west.

Southland

Mostly sunny with northwesterly winds, fresh at times from midday.
