A westerly airflow lies over New Zealand today, a front pushes onto the lower western South Island late overnight. This front continues to push eastwards on Wednesday, slowly pushing northwards during the day also.

Mostly cloudy for western New Zealand today, the odd patchy shower about. Rain becomes heavy about Fiordland later in the evening or overnight. Sunnier skies for eastern regions, Southland sees the odd shower especially nearer the coast.

Sunny spells for the upper North Island on Wednesday, there may be an isolated shower or two also then overnight expect a period of rain. Dry along the east coast with some high cloud, the lower western North Island sees the risk of a shower then evening rain. Heavy rain about South Westland pushes into North Westland during the afternoon. Thick high cloud out east, mainly dry.
