Australia: Significant rain coming for drought stricken NSW farmers (+6 Maps)

Filed in:

There is good news for the serious drought in New South Wales - good rain is coming. A midlatitude trough over the eastern interior of Australia will deepen and interact with a surface low pressure system extending from northern Queensland. It will bring fair amount of rain over interior southern Queensland and northern New South Wales on Friday and Saturday.

Isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to start from Friday afternoon in interior southern Queensland and northern New South Wales. Meanwhile, coastal areas from Sydney to Rockhampton will be mostly cloudy or have light rain due to onshore winds.

On Saturday morning and afternoon, scattered showery rain and thunderstorms in the interior regions are expected. After Saturday night, a frontal line will be formed and organized convection will bring a period of locally heavy rain in the interior regions.

About 50mm rainfall during Saturday night is expected in the area from Moree to Roma, including the interior regions in New South Wales where drought condition has been persisted.
