Another tropical low for Queensland

Filed in:

A tropical low developing in the Coral Sea is expected to bring heavy rainfall to northeast Queensland early next week, but the risk of a cyclone is low.

This part of Queensland has already seen plenty of rain this month. In the previous 24 hours until 9am this morning, Ingham received 146mm, 150mm in Halifax and 156mm in Rollingstone.

In the eleven days of March so far, Ingham has received 791mm in the gauge, over double the historical average. In less than two weeks, this March total is already the highest since the 1177mm seen in March 1990.

With the additional rainfall expected from the encroaching low, it will continue to stay very wet throughout early next week. There are signs that this active monsoon trough will weaken and move further north later next week, allowing for calmer conditions.
