Animation: Fiji airflow explains why so many regions are warmer than average (+4 Maps)

The air flow across New Zealand has quite the journey at the moment, originating around Fiji and tracking as far south as Antarctica where it then gets pulled back into a Southern Ocean storm.

This set up means New Zealand is well above average temperature-wise at the moment while in Tasmania it's much colder. Hobart has a high of 12 degrees today, compared with 21 in Dunedin and the late 20s, maybe 30, in Christchurch today.

Overnight lows, especially in the North Island, are above normal for now too.

Cooler air arrives across New Zealand on Sunday and Monday, but things warm back up again mid to late next week.
